  1. I think the story ends by Jonas discovering that there is another Community. This community was made up of people who ran away from their Community. This Community lets people have freedom. Jonas thinks that this is a wonderful community. No one is realeased here, but they are locked up in jail instead. Later, Jonas realizes that this community is not so great after all. Sometimes freedom is not so good. Jonas tries to find a way to go back to the Community with Gabriel without anybody noticing that they were missing.

  2. I think that Jonas and Gabriel reach the freezing point and they both die. I had some suspicion that they lived and returned to their new an pd improved community. I think that they are dead because they saw lights and they heard lovely music. These are usually signs of someone passing away. I NEVER would have seen this ending coming. I wonder what is happening in the community though...

  3. I think that the story ends by both Jonas and Gabriel die. I think this because they could've freezed to death. But, a part of me thinks that they lived too. Because, they heard music, and in the future that is a good sign because maybe they reached a place where things are regular. Where you can make your own choices, and not have to be watched every single minute. I didn't see that ending coming; however, I wonder what will happen to The Giver, Jonas's parents, and the community.

  4. I think that in the end that both Gabriel and Jonas reach the point where they freeze and starve and eventually die. Although, parts of me feels that Jonas and Gabriel return home - to a better place. But if they saw lights and heard... music.... then it may be their music to heaven or their transfer to - Elsewhere. Maybe Elsewhere was death. Because the community was so safe that Elsewhere would be a place of complete torture. I hope that they lived to go to their community... to experience love and color. But maybe death is inevitable.

  5. I believe that the story ends with Jonas and Gabriel sledding into heaven. It was freezing cold, and I find it hard to believe that they could have made it into elsewhere without dying. Lois Lowry did an outstanding job of really making you think about the ending, and not making it perfectly clear of what exactly happened. The last sentence of the book, "But perhaps it was just an echo," really made me think. My opinion is that it was an echo, and they were on their way to a better life in heaven. It could be that Jonas was simply beginning to hear beyond, and they had actually made it to elsewhere. Nonetheless, I truly enjoyed The Giver, even thought it was an extremely disturbing novel.

  6. I think that he sleds down and there is another community just like his and he gets saved. And that community is just like how other communities now a days are. But it is still similar to the old one. Or like number 02 said they might just be dead. I still think that maybe his whole world might be a dream or a world that is computer generated. That is only my thought though.

  7. I think they both die in the end. Jonas and Gabriel probably saw the lights and music to "heaven" or something. I wish she wrote an epilogue at the end to make us understand what was happening in the community which would have made the story more of a cliffhanger. And how was there a sled right there waiting to be used? I don't get that. So he must of had hallucinated and thought of it and was sitting in the snow for the "ride".

  8. How I think the story ends, is that Gabriel and Jonas die. I think that since they were clImbing through thick snow, starving that they died of cold and starvation. I like how the story ends as a cliffhanger, making you think about how it ends. I'm not one hundred percent sure that is how it ends, but I think that it makes the most sense. There also is the possibilty that they did one giant circle, and survived to live back in the same community accept the memories were released into the community so that it was different. Overall, I really enjoyed reading The Giver.

  9. How I think the story ends is Jonas and Gabe die. The book described how Jonas and Gabe were freezing...maybe they passed of hypothermia? However I especially do not think they found a new community though. Because think about it wouldn't they have seen signs of the new city? Or maybe they just made a giant loop? Whatever way the story ends I fine the author did an outstanding job with the book. It left the reader with something to think about. It was almost like a cliffhanger.

  10. I think the book ends by them messing up their lives more. I want to be optimistic by saying that they don't die, but it's not going to be an easy life. If they did make it to a new world then It's not like a new family and food will be waiting for them. The best case scenario is they get put into an orphanage. If it's people like us, the younger kid (Gabe) will get picked first, and Jonas and Gabe will get separated. Leaving would have saved Gabe's life and the hardship of being the only one with feelings.

  11. I think, or at least I hope, that the story ends happily. I think he found another place to live in, and other people happy to take Gabe and him in. Maybe he'll find a new Community, one that's better than his old one. Maybe he'll find a better, happier life. Or his escape could just lead to the worse. Maybe he'll end up in an orphanage, living worse than before. But, in one light, that might also be the high life for him. A life with Stirrings and memories of his own would be great to Jonas. There is also the possibility that he didn't even live, and he and Gabriel died. But he died happily, not by Release, so maybe it was okay anyways. There is also the posibility that he ended up back at the Community, which would be the option he would like the least. The Giver may have been able to make the place better, but it's very understandable that he wouldn't want to see his father or anyone else again, even if they were changed people.

  12. I think that the stories ending depends a lot on the readers perspesctive. Personally, I think that the story ends with Jonas and Gabe standing on the outskirts of another community. However this community has choises and freedom. This community is kind of like our sociaty today. However I think that this comunity revolves around trust and good deeds. So there wouldn't be crime or murder.
