Define prejudice, stereotypes, and scapegoats. Find and write down examples of each term in today's society. In your comment, explain why prejudice can be dangerous and what groups have been victims of prejudice over the course of history. Where do prejudices come from? What can we do to get rid of prejudice?
Prejudice is when you do not like something based on it's color, religion, or other grouping. Steriotypes are people who believe things about certain people because of one person, for example: all people who wear glasses are nerds. Scapegoats are people who aare forced to take the blame for other people. Prejudice can be very dangerous because innocent people can be hurt or killed. Over the course of history, jewish people and black people have been victims of prejudice. Prejudice comes from when someone does not like someone who is a certain thing, and expects the others who are the same thing to be the same as the one. Then that person convinces other people to think the same thing. We all can start listening to other peoples thoughts and feelings and really see if what we are saying is true to get rid of prejudice.
ReplyDeletePrejudice is when you jump to conclusions about someone else before you actually meet them, or also known as "judging a book by its cover". Stereotypes are when you form an image in your mind about how certain people always look when in actuality they are not all like you imagine them to be. Scapegoats are people or a person who are/is blamed for the mistake or problem of another. An example of prejudice in today's society is that some places in the world mistreat others because of their religion, origin, or even their appearance. Also, an example of stereotypes is when you imagine a scientist, you probably think of a man with white hair and glasses wearing a lab coat. However, scientists can specialize in many things so not all scientists look like that. An example of scapegoats is that during World War two, the Jewish were the scapegoats, or were held responsible, for the loss of power and money in Germany. Prejudice is very dangerous because in World War two, over 6,000,000 Jewish people were killed because the Germans were prejudice and angry. Prejudice has affected many groups such as African Americans, Native Americans, and the Jewish. Prejudices come from anger and hunger for power. The Germans had just lost the first war and it had left them angry and broke. In their fury, they began to believe that the Jewish were the ones to blame for their loss. Prejudice also comes from a sour past experience with someone. When you dislike one person, you expect all the others like that person to be the same. We can prevent and even stop prejudice by getting to know someone well before judging them.
ReplyDeletePrejudice is when you think of one based on one's color, religion, or other grouping. Stereotypes are widely held but fixed and oversimplified image or idea of a particular type of person or thing. Scapegoats are people who are blamed for the wrongdoings, mistakes, or faults of others. Prejudice can be dangerous because innocent people can be hurt or even killed for doing nothing. Over the course of history, Jewish people and African Americans were judged by their cover and were blamed for all bad things that happened in the world. Prejudice comes from people who loath or hate someone or something for an unreasonable reason. This person then starts to get other people to think that objects or humans like the someone or something they hate are just as horrible. Listening to others' thoughts and feelings can help bullies, or people who hate a type of stereotype, understand what the target is feeling.
ReplyDeleteExcellent responses, class. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteNumber 01, great response! A long response, too!
ReplyDeleteWow! That is aa great comment, 01!
ReplyDeletePrejudice is when people judge others by their looks, their language, or their religion. An example of prejudice is when people think that someone is a crazy psycho lunatic because they are poor or if they live on the street. Truly, that person could be totally normal, but they were just unlucky with life. A stereotype is the image a person thinks of automatically when they hear the name of something. For example, a stereotype could be when someone thinks of a person who is smart to be a wimpy kid with broken glasses who tucks their shirt in and constantly wears plaid. However, a smart person could be the total opposite of that. Scapegoats are groups of people that are blamed for doing the wrong thing. They could possibly be blamed for something they didn't even do like when a person is bullying someone else and they blame it on another person. Prejudice can be dangerous because it could lead to war, and many people could die from it. African-Americans were victims of prejudice when they were segregated because of the color of their skin. The Civil War was caused by people who thought that African-American people should be treated like animals, not like humans. Over 6,000,000 Jewish people were killed by the Nazis because they were judged by their religion. Prejudices come from mean people who enjoy judging others based on who they are just because they can't find anything else better to do. We can get rid of prejudice by making people see how others feel when they are judged. Then, they will know better and learn that it's not the right thing to do.
ReplyDeletePrejudice is the act of judging someone without knowing all the facts, like deciding what a person is like just by seeing them. Stereotypes are fixed beliefs about someone, especially wrong ones. Scapegoats are people that are blamed for something they didn't do.In today's society, people define certain groups to be uneducated, such as Hispanics or African-Americans. This prejudice can be dangerous because sometimes the poeple who are defined like this are really, really unhappy about it, and may inflict pain on other human beings. Prejudice comes about when a certain amount of people in a group are a certain way, and can be stopped if people stop judging others based on what other people in their group has done. These people would be considered scapegoats, becaus they are blamed for being like the rest of their group, even if they are different. Nowadays, people have stereotypes against certain races.
ReplyDeleteThanks 12 and 05!!! A think your responses are great too!!!!
ReplyDelete12, 05, and 01, your responses are outstanding! I can tell that you understood the question very well.
ReplyDeletePrejudice is the act of judging someone or something based on very little and insignificant reasons. An example of prejudice is judging a book by its cover. Stereotypes are certain opinions about people, but similar to prejudice, they have to do with only small features. An example of a stereotype is how some people think that just because some people wear glasses or braces, they are "nerds". Scapegoats take blame for certain things, but by force by a certain group. Over the years there have been many acts of prejudice. During World War II, Jews were frowned upon by the German Nazis, and especially Adolf Hitler. Preceding the Civil Rights Movement, African Americans were judged by people only because of the color of their skin. Prejudice is caused by one person believing that something is bad before they know who that person or what that object truly is. Prejudice can be stopped when people try to get to know more about the certain object or person, and then they might get a better view on that person or object.
ReplyDeleteWhen you are prejudice, you judge someone before you get to know them.It may be the color of their skin or what religon they that changes your mind about someone. Sterotypes are opinions about a certain type of person or a group of people. Scapegoats are people or a society that take the blame for something they did not do. The Jewish people were scapegoats. Prejudice is dangerous because it causes people to think negatively about each other. We can stop prejudice by trying to know more about that person or thing.
ReplyDeletePrejudice is like the way the Nazis treated the Jews because they believed that wiping out all the Jews will solve all the problems. Prejudice is when people or creatures treat other people in a bad way for no apparent reason, just because they want to. Examples of it today is when people like bullies bully other kids without even knowing them, they do it because they a unaware of what they're doing. Stereotypes is when people randomly believe that a certain person looks like something from picking it up, however they may also just think of it by their selves. An example of it today is like when little kids think of aliens that look green and speak the same language and everything. Scapegoats are certain people who don't do a thing wrong and they get blamed for by force, such as a bully who does something bad and framed the good student so by force the kid has to say they did the wrong thing even though it wasn't them. Example of prejudice from the past are such as the Jews they were in danger by almost losing their lives. The Nazis wanted to kill their whole religion. Still many of Jews are alive. That is how dangerous prejudice can be. Prejudices come from a form of racism then people become racists without even knowing a thing about them.
ReplyDeleteThanks 07, your response is great!
ReplyDeletePrejudice is when you judge something or someone before you even know anything about it or them. Some people might call it judging a book by its cover.Stereotypes are when people create an image in their mind about how someone looks like, but they are wrong about how they look.Scapegoats are when someone is blamed for something they didnt do.An example of prejudice in todays society is that some people, not nessasarily in America, judge people by their religion, color,or appearance. An example of stereotypes is when people think that a "nerd" is someone with glasses and braces, but just because they are smart, doesnt mean that they are "nerds".An example of scapegoats is when the jewish people were blamed for the loss and money of the war, but they really werent.Prejudice can be dangerous because if you are a certain color, have a certain religion, or have a certain apppearance, people might hurt or harm you because you are different.Groups that have been victims are Native Americans, and the Jewish, also some others.Prejudices come from anger, and wanting power to make them feel good about themselves. Also, sometimes prejudice can come from payback or wanting someone who has hurt you to hurt.We can prevent prejudice by not "judging a book by its cover" and getting to know someone before judging them.
ReplyDeletePrejudice is when you think about someone without knowing them. Stereotypes are standardized and simplified conceptions of groups based on some prior assumptions or also known as making a picture of a person and sticking to that. Scapegoat is the practice of singling out any party for unmerited negative treatment or blame. An example of prejudice in today’s society is people around the world mistreat others because of their beliefs, looks, or origin. An example of stereotype in today’s society is many people think that cheerleaders always need a slim body. An example of scapegoat is during World War 2, the Jewish people were the scapegoats because of the Germanys loss of money. Prejudices have affected groups like the Jewish and African American. Prejudices come from hunger for lots of power and loss of hope. We can prevent prejudices by getting to understand another person before making conclusions about them.
ReplyDeleteI like your comment 21! Nice!
ReplyDeleteA prejudice is a person the has a judgement or opinion for someone or something without knowing the real facts. A stereotype is someone who believes something about someone because of their image, or their actions. Scapegoats is a person or group made to suffer the blame for others for something they didn't do. Prejudices can be dangerous because if someone has a bad judgement to someone, it can cause hate to fill up and that "person" can get hurt cause of that hatred. One group that had been a victim to prejudices throughout history is the Jewish. Since they had been a targeted victim to prejudices, they were blamed for the damage and money loss in World War two. Prejudices come from the hatred of many people's hearts, also thinking they "Jewish people" had "killed" Jesus. Stopping prejudices can be a good thing for everyone and thing because if there isn't any hatred in people's hearts, and thinking about someone of their real thoughts and feelings, prejudices can stop being dangerous and the world can be a place where peace and love lies and hatred being an enemy for all.
ReplyDeleteReally nicely done number 01, I really admire the way you wrote your answer.
ReplyDeleteWhen you are predudice you judge someone by there feauters without even knowing the person or thing. Stereotypes are different beliefs about someone or something, but these beliefs are wrong ones. Scapegoats are a group of people or a person who are blamed for doing a problem they did not do. An example of predudice in todays soceity is many people are judge by their color, orgin, religon, and language most countries do this kind of act. An example of stereotype is now a days people will hear the name of someone or something and judge them automatically. Now a days when people are scapegoats they are accused for some problem such as bullying that they did not do. Predudice can be dangerous because it can lead to war like what happen with the Jewish people and German people. The German people judged the Jewish people by they thought they killed Jesus Christ which Hitler was a christan and because he was a christan he was very angrey about this particular statement. African American people have been affected by this because they were segergated by the color of their skin. Predudice comes from anger and sometimes sadness. We can get rid of predudice by educating them by making them realize that everyone is human which means that some people are going to be different than others.
ReplyDeleteI really like 16's comment. Outstanding job!
ReplyDeletePrejudice is Like judging something or someone before you know them. Stereotypes are fixed ideas of someone or something. Scapegoats are people that are blamed for something that the didn't do but get punished for it. Prejudice can be dangerous because you can assume that some one is evil and end up hurting them for no reason. Over the course of history the Jewish people have been victims of prejudice. Prejudice can come from jealous or if you don't like the religion some one is or the color of their skin. We can get rid of prejudice by getting to know someone before assuming that they are bad and thinking of others and how they might feel
ReplyDeleteI like your response too, 14! You really do know much information on this subject. Keep it up!
ReplyDeletePrejudice means an opinion formed before you even met a person. Stereotypes is someone that believes someone because of their image and actions. Scapegoats are a group or person who are blamed for a problem they didn't cause. An example of prejudice is in today's society is that some people in the world or not treated properly because of their looks or appearance. An example of stereotypes is some people today may judge other people just because of how they look. An example of scapegoats is the Jewish were often mistreated because of something they did not do. Prejudice can be dangerous because it can get a lot of people hurt or killed. This can lead to war, like World War Two. The German people during World War Two killed many Jewish. Prejudice can be formed by a misunderstanding. We can get rid of prejudice by having peace.
ReplyDeletePrejudice is an unfair opinion of someone or something based on feelings and not facts. A stereotype is a simple and often incorrect idea about a group. A scapegoat is someone who is blamed for the mistakes of somebody else. An example of prejudice today is when a landlord will not rent to someone because of their race, religion, or color of their skin. An example of a stereotype today is when a girl who wants to be an engineer is told, "you can't do that because you are a girl." An example of a scapegoat is when one person at a table group in a classroom gets in trouble for talking but the whole group was talking. Prejudice is dangerous when people hurt others that they don't like. The Dutch were victims of prejudice by the Germans. Another example of prejudice here in the U.S. was how whites used to segregate blacks in schools, at restaurants, and in bathrooms. Prejudice often comes from ideas passed down in families or it can happen when one group of people dislike another group of people. We can get rid of prejudice by learning more about different groups of people and being understanding of their differences.
ReplyDeleteTo be prejudice means to have an opinion that is not based on reason or actual experience. An example of a predudce by today's standards is someone who might not be someone's friend because of their wealth, social status, or appearance. Stereotypes are a widely used image or idea of a certain type of person or thing. An example of stereotypes in today's standard are "geeks". People think that people who are good with electronics and computers are "geeks". A scapegoat is a person who is blamed for the mistakes, or faults of other people. An example of a scapegoat are the Jews. They were blamed of the loss of money and jobs in World War 1, but really weren't. Prejudice can be dangerous because you can assume something about a group of people and end up hurting them for no reason. The Jewish people, Native Americans and many other peoples. Prejudices come form hatred and revenge because they want to feel like they can do anything. We can destroy prejudices by not "judging a book by its cover" and getting to know someone before you judge them.
ReplyDeletePrejudice is when you judge a person just by their religion, color, or features. An example of prejudice is to "prejudge" somebody before you even get to know them.Stereotypes is when a person has a fixed or exaggerated idea of someone. An example of stereotypes is when you think of a scientist, you might think that he/her has a lab coat and wears glasses, but they are just like every other normal person in this world. Scapegoats are people who are blamed for something that they didn't even do or commit. An example of scapegoats is when Jesus Christ, who shouldered the sin of all mankind, to die in a painful way. Prejudice can be dangerous, because it can lead to fights between people you don't even know physical and socially. It can even lead to wars.Groups that have been victims of prejudice over the course of history are Jews, Africans, Muslims, Deaf/Hard of Hearing, Blind, Mental Retardation, Gays/Lesbians/Transexuals, Atheists. Obesity, Women, & many more. They've been discriminated based of false information.Prejudices come from jealousy, or if you don't like their religion, or make fun of it. To prevent prejudice, or even stop it forever, is to not think of someone, or have a picture in your mind of them before you even meet them, and you should get to know them first.
ReplyDeleteBeing prejudice is like judging someone when you don't even know them. Such as their skin color, or even their religion. Stereotypes are false thoughts about people that have been pictured incorrectly. Scapegoats are a group of people that are punished for the things that they didn't do. Some people around the world are prejudice about African-Ameriacans' skin color. Nerds are also stereotyped by picturing them as being the students who always carry books with them and have glasses and braces. Scapegoats are used in today's society by little children making messes and blaming it on the child next to them or near them. Prejudice can be dangerous because people who judge others could injure their feelings by making their religion or skin color look bad. The Jewish people were discriminated because the Nazis thought that they brought evil to the world. Prejudices come from false thoughts. We could get rid of prejudice by respecting others and thinking of the way that they would feel.
ReplyDeleteI like how you worded your response number 14. Great job!
ReplyDeletePrejudice is when someone talks or gossips about them before even met. Like when thay have a wart on their face, they are called ugly. Prejudice can be stopped by not judging by their looks, don't tell people how that person is so mean and rude before you even met them, and respect each others looks and how they are like.
ReplyDeletePrejudice is a thought, a view or an opinion either good or bad that has no reason or logic supporting it. My Russian hockey coach told me the other day that I am lucky I live in America. I asked him why and he said, " in Russia, they believe that hockey is a sports played only by real men. Female athletes participate in tennis, gymnastics or figure skating but not the male-dominated soccer or hockey." Since that conversation, I don't take for granted that I play a man's game. I take pride in it.
ReplyDeleteJews, Blacks and women are just a few examples of people that were/are prejudiced. It can be dangerous because it can lead to loss
of life ultimately, just like what the Jews suffered under the Germans.
Stereotypes are generalizations or assumptions that we form about people because of belonging to a particular group. An example is the stereotype that blondes are not smart.
Scapegoat is to blame another person or to suffer in their place.
Prejudices are learned by children as they are modeled by parents or people with authority. We learn them as facts and we behave as if they are the truth. When children hear their parents saying something prejudiced or see them acting a certain way towards group, then they form the same opinions. What we believe determines what we do and feel or perceive as true. So when the beliefs that cause the problem are removed, prejudices are removed, too.
I am not sure though that we will ever get rid of prejudice. Some people feel good to pick on others who are different from themselves and this kind of personality will never change. On the other hand, prejudice is caused by simple ignorance, so education is a key factor to eliminate prejudice. Through education, we learn to discuss, evaluate and decide based on new facts or new learnings
Prejudice is when an adverse judgment is formed without knowledge or examination of the facts. An example of prejudice is when someone assumes another person acts some sort of way just because of their gender or race. Stereotypes are the oversimplified image or idea of a particular type of person or thing. An example of a stereotype is when someone thinks blondes are stupid, or when one thinks that asians are short, without any evidence of the sort. A scapegoat is a person or group that has been made to bear the blame of something another has done. An example of a scapegoat is when a one does terrible deeds, and frames another for what he or she has done. Prejudice can be dangerous because in World War II, thousands of Jews were slaughtered by the Nazis because people believed that they were the reason nobody had any money. Prejudice comes from either the judgment of someone or a group of people, or the feeling hatred or vengefulness. we can get rid of prejudice by respecting others and not judging someone because of their looks, age, height, gender, race, or anything else of the sort.
ReplyDeletePrejudice is very similar to “judging a book by its cover”. “Judging a book by its cover” is like judging a book by its cover. You would look at a book, think that because the cover is horrible and think that the whole book is horrible. Prejudice is similar but instead of describing books, it describes people and their religion, skin color, their wealth. Stereotypes are opinions or ideas against a group of people because of their skin color or religion. Scapegoats are people or who get something horrible blamed on them, such as why people are losing money. Prejudice is dangerous because one can only take so much insults and negativity coming at them repeatedly. The victims of this injustice are people with colored skin, Jews, and more presently, nerds. Prejudice probably comes from people who are so heartless that they have nothing else to do but pick on people and bully them. We can start standing up for people who are victims of prejudice to get rid of prejudice. When we are standing up for these people the prejudices would probably think that bullying one person is easy, but more is much harder.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for the comment 25, you did an outstanding job in describing your answer!!!!
ReplyDeleteGreat comment 21!!!!
ReplyDeleteTHE DEFINITION OF PREJUDICE IS, JUDGING SOMEONE WITHOUT FACTS OR REASON. ONE EXAMPLE OF THIS IS WHEN A person starts discriminating a type of culture. Stereotypes are created lies of a person or a race. An example of stereotypes is when a person is spreading a rumor about somebody being ugly or something. Scapegoats are people that are blamed for bad events like one example like when a culprit of a murderer blames an innocent bystander. Prejudice can be dangerous because like in world war 2, the jews were shown as bad people and were killed off by Nazi people. Prejudice can be vanquished by telling people to try respecting their looks, gender, race, culture, and religion.

ReplyDeletePrejudice is the act of or practice of "judging a book by its cover", which means you discriminate a person because of their religion, culture, color of their skin, and language before you know the true facts. A stereotype is what you think of a specific person looks like in your mind, but in reality that person is the exact opposite of what you think he/she is. For example, when you say, "smart", what do you imagine? A stereotype for example is a nerd with taped up glasses and wears plaid all the time. A scapegoat is someone who is blamed for something they didn't do and is punished upon because of someone else's actions. Some people such as African Americans were victims of prejudice. The Civil War was fought due to the fact that African Americans were treated like trash. Prejudice often occurs because people don't understand one another and judge too quickly. To stop prejudice, everyone must learn that everyone has feelings and realize what situation that other person is going through.
Thanks number 10
